The Legend - What is the Blue Moon Legend?

(I've said most of this before when discussing having this as a topic, but I thought I'd say it again, in slightly different words to start us off here.)

There's more to Blue Moon than the card game. The game takes place in the world of Blue Moon, and Reiner Knizia, Dave Farquhar and Kevin Jacklin, in particular (no, not me) have created a Legend within which the game plays. Much of the Legend hasn't been revealed, but there are various hints within the game. Most obviously there's the piece of the Legend on page 2 of the rulebook, but that's obviously rather limited - it doesn't even mention the Vulca and the Hoax, let alone the other six peoples of Blue Moon.

So where's the rest? Well, the main other material which has been revealed is on the game cards (the Background Information noted on page 5 of the rules). This comes in various sorts.

Some of it describes the peoples. Look at Flamebreath the Dazzling (Vulca 01) for a description of the Vulca for example. Some of it is colouring, look at Ember (Vulca 16) - but this also might also tell you something about the Vulca.

Some of it expands on the story in the rulebook - read the cards in order for this. Also where it's told tells you something. Some of it takes the story further forwards - and backwards. Much of this is still to come, but there are a couple of significant hints in the latest couple of decks.

And finally look at the artwork. Kevin Jacklin has pointed out to me the detail on the board is as it should be. The artists do have some things they're asked to do. An easy one is that the Flit can fly.

Is this all going to help you win the game? Not as far as I know. But you might get some appreciation (this is Blue Moon Fans after all) and even if you don't care about the Legend, you still are ruled by it - several playtest ideas have bitten the dust when told they weren't consistent with the Legend.

Hello Mr. Dearlove,
I would like to know something about the story of the Pillar. Who are they, where are they from etc. And most important: When will the new decks (Aqua and Pillar) be available? You already said something about Reiner Knizias scheduling plans in another forum. But you did not say when (month Wink ) the new decks will come.
Thanks!
CU,
Christ.

I believe that it makes absolutely no sense to ask Dearlove (or anyone else related to the publisher Kosmos) again and again about the schedule for new people decks. They will be available when they're ready. If some people really knew a date, they probably won't tell you anyway.
And if they don't know it by themselves because it depends on certain prerequisites (such as production limitations or market success), it makes even less sense to ask...

All of that, except the "else" in the second line. My only direct contact with Kosmos is with Sebastian Rapp, we (and others, including Reiner) discuss any questions we aren't 100% certain of, or think someone may find interesting, and things like that. That gives me a little insight on plans, but not a lot. You're likely to get a better guess from someone who understands the marketing cycle of the games industry, even if they've never heard of Blue Moon.

Of course as you also say if I did know I wouldn't say. For example I did know there was a promotional card planned, but I hope no one saw even a hint of it. I think I broke the news early on the Geek, but only because I saw the official announcement first, which anyone could have done. (OK, I knew to look, but rarely did, that was chance.) I hope I also haven't made any comments I knew to be false, finding an accurate but incomplete wording. And of course sometimes I do a little teasing ... within strict bounds.
